  11.      SchoolWrite is a networked school administration system, maintaining
  12.      your academic records for classroom management, and keeping accurate

  15.      SchoolWrite Shareware (Students component) is used  by  K-12  school

  54.      SchoolWrite software converts to a  fully licensed  version  with  a
  55.      User Registration Key sent to you via email.   Software  evaluation,
  56.      ordering, AND installation can be completed TODAY.

  59.      Users of SchoolWrite are not left on their  own.  Support  from  BBA
  60.      Software is always available via email, fax  and  phone.  Registered 
  61.      users receive support with 24 hour turn-around, from anywhere in the
  62.      world.   Problems with your data files can be  resolved  by  placing
  63.      compressed files into our ftp site.   Hardware problems are resolved
  64.      with a diagnostic  text  file  which  can  be  emailed.   Additional
  65.      programs can also be tailored to your exact  needs.   Your  tailored
  66.      .exe file can be emailed to you, or 'collected' from our ftp site.

  72. 3. Full Installation instructions

  74.      Unzip the file swkids23.ZIP (with PKUNZIP 2.04g)

  76.      It is recommended that you create a directory \SW on your hard disk.
  77.      Copy the following files into this (unused) directory:

  89.             You need to be in the directory where SchoolWrite resides:

  98.             In Program Manager, pull down the  <F>ile  menu,  and  select

  105.      SchoolWrite is self-installing. You need only hit <ENTER>  to  agree
  106.      to  various questions  along  the  way. SchoolWrite  self-instals in
  107.      about 1 minute.

  109.      A FULLY LICENSED version of SchoolWrite may  be  registered  at  any
  110.      time from the Demonstration  system.   Simply  run  the  SchoolWrite
  111.      program, and select the 'Register software now' option.

  113.      3.2  RUNNING SCHOOLWRITE:

  115.      3.2.1  Under MSDOS:

  117.             You need to be in the directory  where  SchoolWrite  resides:

  123.             This  gives  a  simple   DOS   menu  from  which  to  choose:
  124.             SchoolWrite, BACKING UP  SchoolWrite  files  (assumes  DOS 3+
  125.             BACKUP program is available), and RESTORING SchoolWrite files
  126.             (assumes DOS 3+ RESTORE program is available).

  138.             In Program Manager, pull down the <F>ile menu,  and  enter  a

  151.             A SchoolWrite icon will now appear in your  Windows  Group (a
  152.             floppy disk with a pencil).

  155.      3.3  Optionally Modifying Your Environment Variables
  156.  
  157.      An  environment  variable  (SWSET=)  may  be  required  to  be  set,
  158.      depending on the configuration of your computer.
  159.  
  160.      You will only need to set this environment variable if you have "DOS
  161.      ERROR 4" problems (Too many open  files .. no handles left), or "Out
  162.      of memory" problems, when running  SchoolWrite.
  163.  
  164.      Solving "DOS Error 4" problem:
  165.  
  166.         SET SWSET=//F:31
  167.         (Important NOT to type spaces before or after the "=" sign)
  168.  
  169.      The above  environment setting overrides the  "FILES=nn" setting, in
  170.      the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  This  variable  is  automatically set in the
  171.      SWRUN.BAT file that  is usually used to execute  SW. If SWRUN.BAT is
  172.      not used for  some reason, then it is  important for the environment
  173.      setting to be included in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  176.      Solving "Out of memory" problem:
  177.  
  178.      If you get  "Out of memory" messages when  attempting to run SW.EXE,
  179.      then  the  following  environment  setting  should  be  made  in the
  180.      AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

  182.         SET SWSET=//E:0
  183.  
  184.  
  185.      Solving "DOS Error 4" AND "Out of memory" problems:
  186.  
  187.      If you  require BOTH the  <F>iles setting AND  the <E>xtended memory
  188.      setting, use the following format:
  189.  
  190.         SET SWSET=//F:31 //E:0
  191.         (Note: there is a single blank space between settings)
  192.

  194. 4. Online Documentation
  195.  
  196.      A  complete documentation manual with professional appearance may be
  197.      printed on your laser or dot matrix printer.   Double-sided printing
  198.      is supported, and a Table of Contents indexed with page  numbers  is
  199.      provided. See Miscellaneous Menu, Option 6 "Print Documentation".
  200.  
  201.      The chapters of the on-line  documentation  are  also  available  as
  202.      on-screen help.  Each chapter  is  a  NOTEPAD  file,  which  can  be
  203.      called to the screen AT ANY STAGE during operation of SW Software by
  204.      hitting the <F7> key.
  205.  
  206.      Documentation  files,  when  selected  into  the  display  screen of
  207.      NOTEPAD, *cannot* be modified (in the same way  that regular NOTEPAD
  208.      word  processing files  can).  Documentation  files are  a different
  209.      color  (yellow  printing  on  a  black  background),   and  the word
  210.      *Documentation* appears at the bottom of the screen.

  315. 8. SHAREWARE:
  316.  
  317.      8.1 What SHAREWARE is:
  318.  
  319.      Shareware describes a method of distributing copyrighted software in
  320.      which a user is free to  evaluate the software before purchasing it.
  321.      After an evaluation period, the  user is honor-bound to register the
  322.      product if he decides to keep using it.
  323.  
  324.      Shareware  distribution addresses  all of  the legitimate complaints
  325.      that users have with commercial software distribution.
  326.  
  327.         o  Shareware allows  a user to fully evaluate  a product, free of
  328.            charge, in his or her home, *before* deciding to buy it.
  329.  
  330.         o  Shareware  programs  can  circulate  freely through electronic
  331.            networks, through Shareware disk distributors, or through user
  332.            groups.
  333.  
  334.         o  Shareware  authors  can  often  be  more  responsive to users'
  335.            requests for help or bug fixes than large software companies.
  336.  
  337.         o  Shareware software, needless to say, is never copy-protected.
  338.  
  339.  
  340.      In short, Shareware  is a dream come true  for school administrators
  341.      and for  teachers. Users show  their appreciation to  developers for
  342.      this  extremely flexible  distribution scheme  by registering  their
  343.      software.

  345.      The Shareware version of SchoolWrite gives unlimited access  to  the
  346.      Students component. The Demonstration version gives  access  to  the
  347.      FULL functions of SchoolWrite's five administration components and 3
  348.      accounting components. There is an  inbuilt  limit  to  the  maximum
  349.      records in the  Demonstration  software.  To register, a license fee
  350.      must  be paid  to  BBA  Software. In  response, a  User Registration
  351.      Key will be issued, which will allow the running of  the  components
  352.      paid for, with unlimited file  sizes.  The license name (your school
  353.      or college) will appear on the tops of all print-outs.

  356.      8.2 What SHAREWARE is not:
  357.  
  358.      Shareware  is not  "free" software.  Shareware is  not Public Domain
  359.      software.  Any fee  that you  may have  paid to  receive a Shareware
  360.      program does not mean that the software has been paid for. A network
  361.      service provider,  a disk vendor,  or a Bulletin  Board Service, may
  362.      have covered their cost of getting the program to you, but they have
  363.      not sold  the licensed rights to  the software. SchoolWrite software
  364.      is paid for by registering your copy with BBA Software.

  368. 9. The History of SchoolWrite:
  369.  
  370.  
  371.      SchoolWrite Version 2  has been  under development for  three years.
  372.      During that period it has been in constant use by schools throughout
  373.      Australia.  SchoolWrite  was  originally   developed  for  the  Unix
  374.      operating system. As a  multi-user school administration system, the
  375.      Unix  version has  the same  design features  of Version  2, with  a
  376.      number of extra modules. SchoolWrite Version 2 for MSDOS also enjoys
  377.      the same multi-user benfits, as it  is  compatible  with  all  major
  378.      networks.
  379.  
  380.      Major  private  schools  in Australia use SchoolWrite as the central
  381.      core to their school administration and billing of fees.   Version 1
  382.      was developed for  PC's  in  Xenix  and  Unix,  first  in  1983, and
  383.      development of Version 1 continues today with a  long  term  future.
  384.      Version 2 has been in use  since 1993, providing all of the benefits
  385.      of its predecessor, along with the added benefits of  the  DOS  user
  386.      interface,  and  self-installation.   Development  and  support  for
  387.      Version 1 will continue whilst ever UNIX is  around,  and  Version 2
  388.      will continue whilst ever MSDOS and Windows  are  around.    We  are
  389.      looking forward to a long future!
